Donate used books and media
D o you have books or CDs you no longer need or want? We work with several non-profits in the CT area. We donate books to shelters, childrens hospitals, and anyone else who is in need of books. This is a great option for those who are moving, clearing out the contents of an estate, closing a store, or just books or media that you no longer want.
The benefit to donating is that we will come to you and pick up the books for free as long as it is 5 boxes or more. If you have less than this, we may still be able to arrange something during a time where we will be near your town. No amount of books is too large.

First, to be clear we are a for profit business. What most people don’t know is that many non-profits have a ton of overhead and thus only a very small percentage of donations actually go to the needy. Overhead for these places can be as high as $0.80 to every $1, meaning as little as 20 cents gets donated to those in need.
Though we do have an online book store, the truth is most books simply don’t fit our business model. We could choose to sell these books for a few dollars in a local store but have decided to give back to the community. As much as 75-80% of books donated will not be sold by us, and instead we will look for a new home for the books. If we are unable to find one, the books will be recycled.
The convenience of at your door pick ups is a very compelling reason why so many people choose Onyx Book Recycling as their Book Donation center.
Books must be in reasonable condition. Highlighting and markings are not ideal but we can still take those books if the rest of it is intact. Examples of books we cannot take are books with loose spines, mold or mildew, missing pages and books that have water damage.
Up to 80% of book donations go directly to local non-profits who are able to use them. Currently we donate to:
